JACKSONVILLE, Florida - November 5, 2013 - Bastech, LLC is
pleased to announce two
promotions. Tom Schafer was named President and CEO and Alan
Martin was named
Executive Vice President, both effective November 5, 2013.
Tom Schafer joined Bastech in 2011 and has served as CFO and VP
of Operations since
then. Mr. Schafer brings 25 years of experience in the chemical
industry, with positions of increasing responsibility in
finance, manufacturing and supply chain. Tom Courtney, Chairman of
Bastech, said, "Tom Schafer's results-oriented approach and
strategic capabilities will play a pivotal role in growing our
company and extending Bastech's track record of providing
world-class chemical solutions."
Prior to joining Bastech, Mr. Schafer spent 22 years with Arizona Chemical. He held positions as US Controller, European Controller, Global Director of Finance, Plant Manager and headed up supply chain projects for the Arizona Chemical. Mr. Schafer also had a leading role in strategic acquisitions.
Prior to that Mr. Schafer held several positions in finance at
Masonite for six years
before transferring to Arizona Chemical as its US Controller. At
the time, both companies were owned by International
Paper. Mr. Schafer started his career as an auditor for
Arthur Andersen, working there for four years. He has an
undergraduate degree from the University of Iowa.
Alan Martin was name Executive Vice President. He will be responsible for Mining, Phosphate Process Chemicals, Industrial Chemicals and Pulp and Paper Chemical marketing and sales. In addition, he will also direct Bastech's Research and Development program. Mr. Martin has 20 years of experience with Bastech having worked on both the Paper and Mining divisions of the company, most recently he was Vice President, with responsibility for the Mining Division.
Prior to joining Bastech, Mr. Martin worked for Johnson and Johnson, Union Carbide, and Iteck as a senior research scientist before joining W. R. Grace & Co.'s Florida fertilizer operations as a project engineer. During his 20 plus years at the Bartow operations he held various positions rising to the VP of Operations for Seminole Fertilizer.
Dr. Martin holds BS, MS, and PhD degrees in Chemical Engineering from Rutgers University, an MBA from University of South Florida and a PhD in Finance from Harvard University.
