Thomas S. Schafer, President & CEO. Tom has 32 years
experience of which the last 24 have been in the chemical
industry. Past experience at Arizona Chemical, Masonite Corp
and Arthur
Anderson in financial management, acquisitions, operations in US
and Europe, various supply chain roles, plant management and
public accounting. Tom oversees strategy, operations,
finance, purchasing, planning and transportation for Bastech.
He has a BS in Accounting from the University of Iowa.
Alan W. Martin, Executive Vice President Business. Alan has over 40 years of experience in paper & pulp, phosphate mining, phosphoric and sulfuric acid plants and fertilizer plants (MAP, DAP, & GTSP). As a senior executive with W. R. Grace & Co. and TOSCO he was involved in operations, design, construction, acquisitions and divestitures of major chemical facilities. Alan has spearheaded Bastech's growth in the phosphate industry. He has a BS, MS and PhD in Chemical Engineering from Rutgers University, an MBA from Florida State University, and a PhD in Finance from Harvard University.
Peter Drew, Business Development Manager, Europe, has 41 years of experience in the chemical industry. Before joining Bastech in 2008 Peter held various positions in Research, Technical Service, Sales and Marketing and Business Management in the EMEA division of Dow Chemical Company. Peter is based in Geneva, Switzerland. He has a Bachelor of Scıence (BSc, hns) ın Applıed Chemıstry from Trent Unıversıty, Nottıngham.
Tom Friel, Technology Manager, has over 35 years of experience in the specialty chemical industry. He is expert in the formulation, synthesis, and application of paper chemicals, mining chemicals, and polymer & organic compounds. Previously he worked for Callaway Chemical Co., Exxon Chemical, Lion Industries, Vinings Industries, and Kemira. He leads Bastech's research and development with a goal to introduce innovative solutions through continuous improvement of existing products, new technology, and biodegradable alternatives. He has a BS in Chemistry from Columbus State University in Columbus, GA and an MS in Chemistry from Burlington Community College in Burlington, NJ.
Debbie Petree, Quality Assurance Manager, has over 25 years of experience in providing technical support to specialty chemical manufacturing. Debbie is knowledgeable in analytical chemistry, including methods development and a wide variety of instrumentation techniques. To meet the Bastech goal of 100% Customer Satisfaction, Debbie has established quality systems and developed a continuous improvement program that includes interaction with customers to better understand their technical needs. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry and Biology from the University of West Georgia.
Tony Daw, Pulp and Paper Application Director, has 33 years of experience in the pulp and paper specialty chemical industry. Tony has held upper level management positions with several specialty chemical companies as well as being the principal in two startup companies. Tony's knowledge of specialty chemical applications in all areas of the mill contribute to the success that Bastech continues to experience. He has BS in Chemistry from Columbus State University.
Dan Rawl, Projects and Maintenance Manager, has more than 34 years of experience in chemical manufacturing, including plant operations, maintenance, process and project engineering, and process safety. Dan is responsible for project management, engineering, and maintenance programs at the Jacksonville, FL and Natchez, MS manufacturing facilities. He has a BS in Chemical Engineering from Clemson University.
